Richmond Community Energy & Emissions Plan 2050

Canada
City of Richmond

Richmond’s Community Energy and Emissions Plan 2050 includes multiple actions within eight strategic directions that together will set Richmond on a path to achieve 50% reduction in community GHG emissions by 2030, and reach net zero emissions by 2050. The eight strategic directions include: retrofitting existing buildings, transitioning to zero emission vehicles, building carbon neutral buildings, establishing complete communities, active mobility for all, supporting frequent transit, enhancing green infrastructure, and transitioning to a circular economy. This plan builds upon Richmond’s climate action leadership to date, and provides a roadmap for achieving the deeper greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set by Council, and consistent with the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 1.5 degree Celsius global warming limit. Implementing these actions will also improve Richmond’s resiliency to the effects of climate change and support the City’s equity, affordability and sustainability goals.
