Background and Purpose

Demand side measure has been one of the key topics in recent G7/G20 discussions. Jointly organized by the G20 Presidency of India and the G7 Presidency of Japan, this workshop provides opportunities to share experiences and good practices on demand-side policies and business initiatives with each other. The objective of this workshop is to foster efforts at various levels and stakeholders, including businesses, local and national governments, organizations, and individuals, in each country to accelerate changes in consumer lifestyles and behaviors related to climate change and the environment in the critical decade to 2030.

Online Workshop Summary

Collaborations are important in promoting environmentally conscious behavior.

  1. Collaborating between national government and stakeholders, such as industrial organizations, to promote movement in a large scale(Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India, Confederation of Indian Industry).
  2. Having numerous conversations with stakeholders to develop criteria that is widely accepted (Ministry for an Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, France, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Sport Positive).
  3. Engaging community by involving volunteers who desire to contribute to the society (Olio).
  4. Collaborating with brands and distributors to further enhance consumers’ understanding of the environmental benefits (Braskem, DAIKIN).

The OECD has pointed out several keys to change behavior. In today’s seminar, we have learned strategies for promoting changes such as:

  1. Providing transparent information and education encourages consumer and fan engagement (Ministry for an Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, France, Braskem, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Sport Positive).
  2. Consumers can effortlessly reduce environmental impact by using products and services that consider environmental sustainability (Braskem, DAIKIN, Olio).
